Why Is My Business Not Showing on Google Maps?

Business not showing on Google Maps? The common causes, from verification and categories to distance and reviews, and how to fix each.

Why Is My Business Not Showing on Google Maps?

Short answer: the most common reasons are an unverified or suspended profile, the wrong category, a new listing, inconsistent details, or simply strong competition close to the searcher. Most can be fixed in your Google Business Profile.

Common causes

  • Not verified: unverified profiles may not appear.
  • Suspended: guideline breaches can hide a listing.
  • Wrong category: Google may not see you as relevant.
  • Distance: results favour businesses near the searcher.
  • Thin profile: few photos, reviews or details.
  • Inconsistent details: different names, addresses or phone numbers online.

How to fix it

  1. Check verification status in your profile dashboard.
  2. Choose the most accurate primary category.
  3. Complete every section: hours, services, description, photos.
  4. Make your name, address and phone identical everywhere.
  5. Collect reviews regularly.
  6. Link a fast website with local content.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a new listing take to show?

Often a few days after verification, but ranking well takes longer.

Does a website help Maps ranking?

A relevant, linked website can support your local prominence and relevance.

Can I rank in areas I do not have an address in?

Service-area businesses can appear in nearby areas, but distance still matters.

Should I add keywords to my business name?

No. It breaks Google's guidelines and can get your profile suspended.
