What Is Google Search Console and How Do I Use It?

Short answer: Google Search Console is a free tool from Google that shows how your website performs in search: which searches show your pages, how many clicks you get, which pages are indexed and what problems Google finds.

Setting it up

  1. Sign in at Search Console with a Google account.
  2. Add your domain as a property.
  3. Verify ownership, usually with a DNS record.
  4. Submit your XML sitemap.

Key reports

  • Performance: clicks, impressions, position and queries.
  • Pages: which pages are indexed and why others are not.
  • URL Inspection: check a page and request indexing.
  • Core Web Vitals: real-user speed data.
  • Links: who links to you.
