Does a Florist Need a Website, or Is Instagram Enough?

Should florists rely on Instagram or relay networks, or build their own website? Delivery areas, ordering, wedding and funeral flowers and seasonal peaks.

Does a Florist Need a Website, or Is Instagram Enough?

Short answer: Instagram shows off your work, but it is a poor shop. A florist's website lets people order flowers for delivery at 10pm on a Sunday, find you for wedding and funeral flowers, and avoid the hefty commission that relay networks often take.

Three ways florists get orders

Walk-ins

Valuable, but limited to people who pass your door.

Relay networks and marketplaces

They bring orders, but often take a big cut and can dictate designs and prices. Many florists find the margin on network orders very thin. Check the terms of any network carefully.

Direct online orders

Someone searches "flower delivery [town]", finds your site and orders directly. You keep the full margin and design the arrangement your way. This is where a website pays.

What customers search for

  • "flower delivery [town]" and "same day flowers near me"
  • "funeral flowers [town]"
  • "wedding florist [area]"
  • "birthday bouquet delivery"
  • "florist open Sunday"

What your site should include

  • An order page or shop: a handful of bouquets at clear price points works better than fifty options. Florist's choice at three price levels is popular and easy to fulfil.
  • Delivery areas and cut-off times: list towns or postcodes and the same day order deadline.
  • Funeral and sympathy flowers: a sensitive, simple page with tributes, wreaths and how to order through a funeral director.
  • Weddings and events: gallery, enquiry form with date and venue, and how consultations work.
  • Subscriptions: weekly or monthly flowers for homes and offices, which smooths out your income.

Take direct orders and keep the margin.

Planning for peak days

Valentine's Day and Mother's Day can make or break a florist's year. Note that Mother's Day falls in March in the UK and Ireland, but in May in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Your website should:

  • Put the peak day collection on the homepage several weeks ahead
  • Offer pre-orders so you can buy stock accurately
  • State delivery limits and cut-offs clearly to avoid disappointed customers
  • Close orders automatically when you hit capacity

The insider tip: an ordering form beats a complex shop

Flowers are seasonal and stock changes daily, so a full e-commerce shop with fixed photos often promises arrangements you cannot make. Many small florists do better with a simple order form: choose a price, colour palette, delivery date and card message, then pay. You design with what is fresh, and the customer gets exactly the value they paid for.

Instagram still matters

Keep posting. It builds your style and brings wedding enquiries. Just link your bio to your website so followers can actually order. Embedding your latest posts on the site keeps it fresh without extra work.

Picking the right plan

If you want a gallery, delivery info and an enquiry form, our Starter plan works. For online ordering and payments, look at the Business or Premium options on our pricing page.

The bottom line

Instagram is your shop window, but a website is your till. Show delivery areas and cut-offs, keep ordering simple, handle funerals with care and prepare early for the big days. Every direct order is one you do not share with a network.

Frequently asked questions

Is Instagram enough for a florist?

It is great for showing your style, but customers cannot easily order and pay through it. A website captures orders around the clock.

Should a florist use a relay network?

They can bring orders, but commission is often high. Many florists use them alongside direct website orders.

What should a florist website include?

An ordering page, delivery areas and cut-offs, funeral flowers, weddings, subscriptions and contact details.

How early should florists promote Valentine's Day?

Several weeks ahead, with pre-orders open so you can plan stock and staffing.
